King Charles grants Prince Edward Duke of Edinburgh title

 

1. Prince Edward has been named as the new Duke of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday, a title previously held by his father, Prince Philip.

2. His wife, Sophie, becomes Duchess of Edinburgh.

3. The couple visited Edinburgh to attend a reception recognising the efforts of volunteers in supporting Ukrainian refugees.

4. The title was wanted by Prince Philip for his youngest son.

5. The decision to give the title to Prince Edward was made by King Charles.

6. The announcement was criticised by anti-monarchy campaign group Republic.
