Pakistan has criticised India's decision to host the G20 summit in Srinagar, the capital city of the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, said the move is a violation of United Nations resolutions that recognise Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory. Chaudhri also claimed that the Indian government is using the event to divert attention from its human rights violations in the region.

India, which will assume the presidency of the G20 group of nations in December 2023, has selected Srinagar as the venue for the summit. However, the decision has been criticised by many, including Pakistan, who claim that the move is an attempt by India to legitimise its occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir is a region that has been the subject of a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947. The two countries have fought multiple wars over the region, which is currently divided between them. India has long maintained that the region is an integral part of its territory, while Pakistan claims that it should be part of its own territory.

The G20 is a forum of the world's leading economies that meets annually to discuss issues related to the global economy, such as international trade and finance. This year's summit is scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy, in October.
