The Pakistani government and K-Electric, the country's largest power supplier, are reportedly in talks to develop a 660-megawatt (MW) unit II of the Jamshoro coal power plant. The project is expected to cost approximately $850 million and will be financed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

According to sources, K-Electric will be the majority shareholder with a 74% stake in the project, while the government will hold the remaining 26%. The development of the power plant is expected to help ease the ongoing energy crisis in the country, which has been exacerbated by the closure of several power plants due to fuel shortages.

The Jamshoro coal power plant, located in the southern province of Sindh, currently has a capacity of 850 MW. The addition of the new unit is expected to boost the plant's overall capacity to 1,510 MW, making it one of the largest power plants in Pakistan.

The development of the new unit is expected to take around three years, with the project slated to begin in the next few months. The project is expected to create employment opportunities and boost economic activity in the region, as well as provide much-needed electricity to the people of Pakistan.
