Stay Safe on St. Patrick's Day: Wood County Sheriff Plans Extra Patrols

The Sentinel-Tribune reports that the Wood County Sheriff's Office plans to conduct extra patrols on St. Patrick's Day. The office plans to use the patrols to increase enforcement of traffic laws and keep the roads safe. The patrols will be funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The Sheriff's Office is encouraging people to celebrate responsibly and to designate a sober driver if they plan to drink. They also warn against drug use, stating that drug-impaired driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving. Additionally, the Sheriff's Office reminds people that walking while intoxicated can also be dangerous.

The Sentinel-Tribune notes that St. Patrick's Day is known for heavy drinking and partying, which can lead to increased incidents of drunk driving. They report that last year, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers made 126 OVI (Operating a Vehicle while Impaired) arrests during the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Overall, the Wood County Sheriff's Office is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety on St. Patrick's Day. They are reminding people to celebrate responsibly and are using extra patrols to enforce traffic laws and prevent drunk and drug-impaired driving. The community is encouraged to do their part in keeping the roads safe by not drinking and driving, using a designated driver, and being aware of the dangers of drug-impaired walking.
