Justice Served: Paul Flores Sentenced to Life in Prison for the Murder of Kristin Smart
Smart, also a student at Cal Poly, disappeared in 1996 after walking back to her dormitory from a party. Her body was never found, but Flores was arrested in April 2021 after new evidence was discovered.
In September 2021, Flores pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced on March 15, 2022. During the sentencing hearing, Smart's family members delivered emotional statements and described the impact of her death on their lives.
The judge also criticized Flores for not showing remorse or taking responsibility for his actions.
